Ally Pally show Jan 2020
Just a short video of some of the boats at the show, camera battery let me down, but you might recognize a couple of the boats that were there.

Cheers, Pete

She is back in dry dock for more fitting out by Lee who constructed and owns the model.
    She is quite a beast at 1/72 scale about 6ft / 2mtr long. Fleetscale kit/parts i think ?.
Special significance for me that my son has served on HMS Iron Duke.

    Hi Phil,
Wonder if your son was on board when I had a look round Iron Duke during the Exponaval in Valparaiso naval harbour many years ago?
When not at the exhibition discussing the COMMS fit for the OPVs Armada de Chile have since built I was on the other side of the dock doing some upgrades to a 1kW HF transmitter on a Leander frigate. Took longer than expected to upgrade the SW so I nearly ended up sailing with her. Might have been fun😉
    Cheers, Doug 😎

Remindes me of berthing alongside just down from the Crescent city connection bridge, near Canal Street - I`m sure the "Precedent" steamer used to be there 45 years ago ?.

I like your paddlewheel “Mark Twain”!
The boats namesake is quite a prolific writer, and in his book “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” he talks about his time in England. I don’t know if you smoke cigars, but an interesting paper he wrote is more about the nature of people, “Concerning Tobacco”....this is a short paper. Funny, but oh so true!
    I like the Calliope!

Crew posting to Tug, still in dry dock and more crew to be completed and fixed to deck, limited room, but at least 2 more to go......still to be maidened, happy with subtle weathering....not over the top...fender soaked in some tea bags for a week....satisfactory end result...

That is a great job on the tug. I have a question: when can I find a figure for my Tug? Where do you get yours?

JBRC, thanks for the compliment, figures sourced from Shapeways, just search online, Merchant Navy set No3, any scale can be achieved, within reason....I've been really happy with them so far...

NON SMOKING EXHAUST WITH AIR INJECTION
Gave up trying to fit a smoke device in the HSL due to lack of room so decided to try something else. Set up the twin small air pumps (1 per exit) and made some y joints to link them to the pump and exhaust outlets,. Works reasonably well and not too noisy. Breaks up the flow a bit and gives it an 'exhaust flow look'.

Hi JB this looks good , what pumps did you use and where did you pipe them into the system

  • jbkiwiAmmiraglio di flotta
Hi Mike. I used 2 mini air pumps (3v) same as the one you are using, (1 per side) Drawing is of method used but without the smoke (as mentioned,- no room) and just running an extra line from the cooling pump instead to the smoke/air exit. The larger 12v pump I tried (see latest smoker attached to exhaust pipes vid) works a lot better and is quieter if you have the room.

LATEST SMOKER MODEL Y HOOKED TO TEST EXHAUSTS
Hooked it up to test exhausts and set the voltage a bit higher (2.6v) to show a bit more smoke. It can go to 3.5V but the test V reg Buck wont handle it (I've fitted a fan but still gets hot quick on 3.6V although not quite as bad.)
