Original: VIC96 built in 1945 as easy to construct support vessel for the Royal British Navy. Today working exhibit ship at the maritime museum in Chatham UK. Website of it's Trust: http://www.vic96.co.uk/
Model: scale 1/35 fully 3D printed in PLA+. 72cm long 12cm wide.
I'm sorry, I didn't realise she was built from that system, being an old fogey who only exists in the world of stick and string, I assumed that she had been beautifully built of wood. Well done anyway and I look forward to seeing more pictures as the construction proceeds..
I'm not sure what exactly you mean with 'solid ends'? English isn't my mother's tongue you see.
The hull was designed by user 'Askarsil' on thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4254426
But that is only the overall structure (hull + upper structure. No masts, jib, winch, etc...). His design however is made to be printed (instead of casting in polyester resin). The hull is divided into 7 pieces to fit 3D printers, and he has included mountholes to insert guides to make the pieces line up when put together.
Now that i found the website of this ship's original, with plenty of pictures; i definitely want to turn this into a watertight RC model. So i'll be gluing the hull pieces together, then treating the hull with 3DGloop to make it watertight. And complete Askarsil's design with mast, jib, doors, windows, winch and have ya.
Excellent start to your VIC. Nice clean, uncluttered model, looking at her, do I deduce that she has solid ends?. Well done so far, I look forward to seeing future progress.
